Birthday Party

Today was Isabelle & Simon's birthday party. Holly had decided earlier this week to wear one of her "pretty party dresses" to the party. This one was made by Noriko for Holly's birthday - we promised Noriko a picture of Holly in the dress.

Dory & Nemo birthday cake.

The birthday brother and sister - a moment of affection!

Taking turns blowing out their candles. . .

Cassie-Anne & Holly - they've been friends since they were 3 months old - and will soon be going to school together.

Isabelle, Holly & Cassie heading to the playground together.

While at the playground, the girls started whispering and decided they were going to put on a show for us (their parents). We were all told to gather back at the party area and they went to practice - Kai, Mackenzie, Holly, Isabelle & Cassie (the choreographer).

At some point, the girls decided it was going to be a girls only show and poor Kai was asked to leave. Little does he know that in about 12 years from now, they might all be fighting over him!

More practising . . . . .

Mackenzie, Isabelle, Holly & Sarah following Cassie's instructions. In the end only Cassie and Holly "performed", but it was just as much fun watching them practise!

Wedding

Today was a busy day for us - after the party, we headed home for a quick break and to change for a wedding we were going to.

After the bride and groom arrived, a boys' group did a dance performance. They were really good and very enthusiastic - it was a lot of fun to watch them!

We were invited to the wedding by the groom's sister, my friend Kulbir. Kulbir and I met at our summer job after I had finished my first year at UBC. Kulbir and I, along with Barb became friends on our first day on the job and we've kept in touch ever since! Barb adopted a little girl from Ethiopia about 16 months ago. Her name is Mekayda (hope I spelled it somewhat accurately!), and she is quite adorable!

Holly in another of her "pretty party dresses". She had fun dancing in it!

Kulbir - looking gorgeous as always! We didn't have a chance to talk to her very much - she had a busy night as co-emcee, along with being a major part of the wedding planning!

PNE 2009

Today we went to the PNE. We had hoped that Dad could join us, but he's away for work again this week. Too bad, he missed a great day with us and Bel-Ee.

First thing we did when we got there was get our lunch and get seats for the Superdogs Show!

After the show, we got to see the dogs up close and pet them, too! This one is Puggy Sue.

This is a whippet and a dalmation.

After watching the Superdogs, we toured the PNE Prize Home and then went to check out the Canstruction exhibit. The globe is made of 7,050 cans! Pretty cool - check out Marvin the Martian, Wall-E, a baby dinosaur, and a model of the PNE Prize Home!

We stopped in at Farm Country and saw some Angora Rabbits (super fluffy and extremely cute!), some Welsh rabbits (super big - bigger than a cat or small dog), and some cows.

We had a snack - my favourite Whales Tails! - and waited for the Toon Rock Parade . . . . .

This is one of the City of Burnaby's eco-sculptures. It's a replica of the Cowie Dragster that broke the world speed record at Mission Raceway in 2007.

We went in search of the International Sand Sculpture Competition, but it doesn't start until tomorrow! We did find one exhibit that was in progress . . . . . it was pretty amazing watching the 5 people working on it. The front is the big top of a circus and back shows some aliens who have crashed into the back of the circus tent - pretty funny!

We walked around the Home Improvement Showcase building (where Holly had a brief nap in her stroller) and then headed to Miller Drive to see KC Bear's Street Party. A lot of characters were there, some we'd seen in the parade. We saw KC Bear (the Playland mascot), Snoopy, Scooby Doo, Garfield, some pirates and lots of dancers. Holly's favourites were the Care Bears - Cheer Bear, Share Bear and Bedtime Bear were there.

All the characters were dancing, but our favourite (and particularly Bel's favourite) was Bedtime Bear, because he had the best moves - he was so groovy that Bel wanted to take him home! Check out this video:

After they danced, they just hung out and you could go take pictures or dance with them . . .

After the party, we went to grab some dinner and sat down to watch some Polynesian dancers.

After dinner and a quick walk around the Marketplace - surprisingly, we didn't buy anything! - we went to sit down to watch the evening's free concert - the reason why I picked this date to come to the PNE - En Vogue! So I guess I'm dating myself - this was one of my favourite groups during my early university days. They have had some changes to members of the band, but the originals are all back together and I had to go see it - especially since they were playing for free!
