Queen's Jubilee
Holly's school participated in a tree-planting ceremony today in honour of the Queen's Jubilee (celebrating the 60th anniversary of her taking the throne). The City of New Westminster planted a tree in the park across the street from the school. The Mayor and some of the City Councillors attended and helped plant the tree.

Posing
The girls are getting ready for the year-end dance recital. Today they had their class picture taken in their costumes. I am very happy that I don't have to make all the costumes, like I remember my mom doing for me and my sisters! Nowadays, the school orders them online and they just show up - much easier! These are their outfits for their hip hop and jazz routines.
Sienna and Holly are 2nd and 4th in the top row.
Cassie, Katie and Mehr are the first 3 in the middle row.

Jericho Iron Classic
We went to Jericho Beach today to watch Paul compete in the Jericho Iron. It was the 20th Anniversary so they had a really cute outrigger cake made!
Paul and his crew were senior masters - meaning they were all over 50 years old (he was actually the baby on the team!). . . and they won the men's race overall! The crew raced together for the first time and are heading to Calgary in August for the World Outrigger Sprint Championships. They beat all the masters and open crews - could be promising for the World Sprints!

Aubrey School Fair
Today we danced at a community fair held at an elementary school.
It was a lot of fun - they even had pony rides in the field at the back of the school, along with bouncy castles, a cake walk, and some midway games.
Holly danced a Maori poi . . .
. . . and a Tahitian . . .
Then we all sang "Aloha 'Oe" at the end.
And hung out with Hawaiian Hello Kitty - it was actually Cadence's mom in there!
(Haley, Holly, Kiara, Leilani, Keilagh,
Ellie, Cadence, Sabine, Emma)

More appreciation
This week has been quite fun. When I started at the school there was only one "Staff Appreciation Day" - now it is an entire week. We have had breakfast served to us, lunches, Starbucks runs, the candy bouquets and today the apples for all staff. This was really cute - inside each "apple" was a gift card for iTunes, Starbucks, etc.

Hula Competition
Holly in her Tahitian outfit. . .
As Holly would say, "Two Tahitian girls with black hair and brown eyes!"
My first ever kahiko (ancient Hawaiian chant) - first in public and first in competition! You can see the dressing room chaos behind me!
Our girls and their trophy! (Just like last year, we won't mention that they were the only entry in their category! They would win on cuteness alone!)

Mother's Day Tea
Today was Mother's Day Tea at school! We enjoyed a lovely tea with these pretty cakes, appreciated the singing of our class (and other class presentations), and were totally awed by the gifts our kids made us!
