Pier Park
The City of New Westminster opened a new park on June 16th. It's right on the river, with a great walkway, plants, kids playgrounds, and these cool lounge chairs.
You can pose really nicely on them! They are cool because depending on the direction of the sun, you can either face the river, or flip them over to face away from the river!

Sooke Project
Holly did a project for her class on Sooke (where Paul's parents live). She did research online about population, animals that live in the area, etc. She brought it home on the last day of school - here it is . . .

Burnaby Village Museum
Holly and my mom went to Burnaby Village Museum today. Holly got to ride the carousel a few times (not many people were there!).
At the carousel, there is a spot where you can take your picture, and send someone a postcard. This is the picture . . .

. . . and this is the postcard they emailed to me! (click on the image to see a closeup of what she wrote to us)

Aquarium Performer?!
Today, Holly spent the day with my mom. They decided to go to the Aquarium, and someone decided to wear their jazz dance outfit . . . I was obviously not home (having already gone to work), and hence, was not able to prevent this from happening. On the upside, I didn't have to argue with her to change, and I wasn't the one seen in public with her! LOL!

Boswell Dance Recital
Holly's dance recital was held today.
Here are Holly and Cassie, getting ready to perform!
The scratch on her face has scabbed over, and the swelling has gone down quite considerably. Nothing a little makeup doesn't hide!

Playland
Today, someone suggested a visit to Playland! Paul took Holly and stayed for a while, then had to head off to work. One of the other moms brought her back to school to meet me after I finished work.

Group shot: Sophie, Mehr, Holly, Sienna, Caleb (Sophie's little brother), Katie, Illya, and Ioana.
And again . . . being goofy!

Holly got a dolphin tattoo - pretty fancy!

Fun after school
After school the girls went to Queen's Park to play. My mom went with some of the other girls' moms, as I had to work.
Mehr, Sienna, Holly, Illya and Katie walked to the park and visited the animals . . .

. . . or maybe they were the animals?!

Last day of Grade 1!
Holly's bump turned into a super, duper black eye this morning!
But, she's grinning, so I know it doesn't hurt any more!

At the report card ceremony, she tried to hide her face with her hair. . .

Remember this?! The first day of grade 1, on September 6. Hard to believe the year has passed by so quickly!

Little (BIG) accident!
Today, after school, Holly was playing on the playground, and tripped, landing right on an exposed tree root with the side of her face!
It looked quite bad, with the long scratch bleeding a bit, but the worst was the huge goose egg protruding from the side of her right eye! It looked like a cartoon injury!
We went to the emergency ward, but the doctor didn't even order x-rays. He said it would bruise tomorrow, and probably take a few weeks to go back to normal. Paul couldn't believe her face when he came home tonight. At just 7 years of age, she has had a shiner better than any he has had in his 50 years!

Another party!
We had a Sunday family lunch at our place and paired it up with Holly's birthday.
It was the first time my second cousin, Xing had been to our house. She came with her mom, Lisa and her daughter Catrin, who has these GREAT cheeks!

Holly decided on a Barbie cake for today's party.

And we also had a cake for my mom, since her birthday is just a few days after Holly's!

Beach Party Luau!
Today, we had Holly's birthday party. I found a great indoor beach place that is generally used to play indoor beach volleyball, but they also host birthday parties.
We thought it would be fun to have a beach party - and good thing it was indoors - it was POURING rain outside!
I paid a little extra to have a "leader" for the kids to play games (soccer, frisbee, etc), but really all they wanted to do was play in the sand with buckets and stuff!

Washing off their feet - there was a lot of going back and forth with buckets to get water for the sand!

Pizza was also included. . .

But I brought the cupcakes! Holly with her friends, Mehr, Katie and Charlie.

Most of the group from school came and some of her other friends as well. As you can see, the boys were trying to avoid being in the photo!
Sarah, Sienna, Danielle, Sophie, Jazmin, Hanna, Ioana, Lucas, Karl. . .
Reese, Mehr, Katie, Holly, Charlie, Samaya and Colby (Nicholas and Sammy successfully made their escape!).
